RE: Omega Rapid 100 cable release ?

I can't believe you're yakking on the computer when you have not even used
your camera yet!!!!
Jees, the night I got mine I already had a roll of film waiting for it. I
took some lame pictures of the greasy pans on the stove and my boyfriend
playing guitar. But, boy was I excited when I processed that film the same
night!

I'm guessing that you don't have it yet.

As far as the cable release, I wouldn't worry yourself too much over it. I
just use a used cable release that I got for about $3 (I think) and it works
fine. Well, luckily we have a large camera store here in Houston and they
had lots of cable releases. So, I just looked for one with a long throw that
looked pretty sturdy. I haven't been disappointed. Most of the time when
something goes wrong it's just me goofing up, not the camera. Maybe later
down the road you can spring for THE koni cable release. (You will always
find things to buy when you are a photographer! filters, lenses, film, etc.)
I personally haven't had a want for it. And to be honest, I hardly ever look
at the film ready indicator. I make it a habit to advance to the next frame
immediately after taking the picture.

I did try to find out some info on your Sunpak 444D. I couldn't come up with
anything about what kind of cord it takes. It seems to only go by dedicated
modules or by off camera TTL through a EXT-10 cord. I guess when you get it
you will know more. I would imagine that there will be a work-around if it
doesn't easily connect with the Koni.

I use a Sunpak 555 (handle mount). It has the two pronged connector for pc
cord on the flash end. I don't know the official name. I bought a long pc
cord with the screw in pc connector (lens end) thing from Paramount Cords
just for the Koni. When I typically use the flash I have it a couple feet or
so away from my camera. It even has a tripod screw on the bottom of the
flash, so I can put it up on an additional tripod. Heck, I can put that
flash I guess about 10 feet away from my camera (maybe more) if I wanted to.
I figure that with the flash being further away from the lens, then I'll
have less red-eye problems. Hmmm...I wonder if red-eye is that noticeable of
a problem when using b&w film? (I also use the same flash for my Nikon 990).
But, attaching the 555 to the Koni is a bit more of a bear than I'd like.
So, I do it off camera majority of the time. I'm gonna look into something
that is a shoe mount with a flash connector (like the Vivitar mentioned
earlier) for more convenience.

Subject: [KOML] Omega Rapid 100 cable release ?

I read in the manual that the camera

"accepts standard cable release tips, but it is recommended
that the special Rapid Omega cable release be used....
as it has a plunger long enough to activate the
Film-Ready-Indicator, as well as trip the shutter,
when the plunger is pushed in fully."

Is anyone aware of a source of cable releases with the appropriate
longer plungers ? ?

I wish the camera had a timer on the shutter as well as a delay.

Hopefully I can learn to use a cable release just fine.

Thanks Sincerely,

Scott in Atlanta
( that has yet to take his 1st photo with his
new [newly acquired] med format camera)
