Digital/Roger

Yes, I use digital. I do not earn a living doing photography though. This is
just a big passion/hobby for me.
I did recently shoot a coworker's son in his karate uniform all on digital
(Nikon 990) and uploaded those to the dotphoto site so that they could order
directly from the site. This worked out very well. The child was excited
about seeing the images as I took them and the parents where excited at my
low price and the prints. I didn't have to charge for film and processing. I
didn't have to make any special trips to a lab. I didn't have to keep up
with what they wanted. They were able to order any time they want and they
can show their family any time they want. I'm sold! They ordered about $60
worth of prints. :) (I'll get about half)

I also use digital to record the winning images in the monthly print
competion for the Houston Photographic Society. Those images are used in the
newsletter and the website.

What really got me into it was when one morning I was meeting the club
(different club) at the butterfly gardens and I couldn't find a store that
was open that sold the slide film I wanted. So I decided what the heck and
only carried my digital camera. I know I got more images (and good ones
too!) than any other member! I didn't have to have a long lens on a tripod.
Instead, I just put it on macro and took pictures within inches of the
butterfly. Whereas, everybody else had big lenses on tripods aimed at a leaf
6-12 feet away and waiting for something pretty to land - and doing all this
while a couple of classes of children parading through with their ladybug
vials.

And I occasionally use digital where most people would use a polaroid. When
I'm testing out the off-camera flash, or trying an experiment. The most
annoying thing about the digital though is the shutter lag and slow zoom.
(Well slow compared with a 35mm camera)

I bought an Epson 2450 (flatbed) to scan in med. format film. I really
really like this machine! I might just go ahead and sell my Minolta film
scanner. I haven't set up my darkroom in a couple months now. My inkjet is
doing a good enough job. I think I even finally got my monitor profiled to
where what I print resembles what's on the monitor using paper profiles! I'm
even becoming pretty satisfied with b&w prints off of the inkjet using the
Epson Colorlife paper, but not color on that paper. For color, I found that
I really like the Epson semi-gloss. I still prefer the darkroom b&w print
over the inkjet, but I just have so very little time these days.

That's my issue - time. My job and family interfere with my hobby. ;-D

Oh yeah, I have used the digital camera as a secondary camera in weddings
and bridal portraits and such. But the primary camera was still the Canon or
the Bronica. I tried using the Koni with my Sunpak 555 for my very first
wedding. I think I would have ended up in the hospital with a bad back.

Hi list, I know most of us are interested in the K-O mf
cameras. Probably many
of you are professionals in photography. I am an primarily been
amateur (and
been one for a long time) although, I use photography in my business.

I am seeking some general views on digital cameras. I used 1.2
meg for my
business for the last couple of years and up graded to a 3.3
Epson, These
cameras have many useful features. Some of my customers have
been asking for
digital photos. (Insurance & investigation work).

While I would not necessary use one for wedding photography, I
can see the
traditional cameras getting less use and attention but they
will be around for a
long time probably for different purposes in the artistic area.

Is anyone on the list using digitals, for what and what is
their experience?

Roger , a Koni-Omega Rapid owner
